Moving to a new place
Hey,
This will probably be the last post on this blog. I’m moving to www.alokshenoy.net
Do drop by. The site building is still in process. As of yet it’s just a photo-blog. I intend to make it more than that.
Cheers,
Alok

Here’s a link for us noobie photography addicts -
5 Mind-Traps of Beginner Photographers
It talks about some of the thoughts that cross an amateur photographer. While the #1 and #3 are pretty much similar, I’m presently going through that phase.
The ‘my gear isn’t good enough’ phase has already passed – one easy way to get past that was to look at the photographs I used to take using a 2MP mobile-phone camera! They were simply fantastic! So, when you have a 10.1 MP DSLR with a 55-250 back up lens, and a Digic III processor – and a manual that took me three days to go through – I have more than enough!
#4 is something I’ve never been able to get past. But that happens – just hit ‘Explore‘ on Flickr – and you’ll feel that you’re no where close to what some are! You always wish you could have thought of that snap!
Go have a read guys – will be worth your time.
Well the title is as wrong as it gets.. but I just wanted to grab the readers attention. Utah lies in the central part of US of A – commonly known as the midwest. Has loads of mountains in the north-western region – of which Logan is a part. Logan is a small University based City located about 60 miles from Salt Lake City (capital of Utah), and an altitude of 4650 ft. above sea level. It’s surrounded by mountains on all sides, which makes it an awesomely scenic place to live in! Considered the Snowboarders paradise!
The topic was – Wall – as decided by Sumedh. I first thought of getting an abstract image of the wall in my department – but then thought – what will be so unique about it that both Sumo and Abhijit will not have? Hence looked for other options – and outta my window I could see these huge towering mountains! And it ‘clicked!’
To see the image: Click on it, will ask you to save the file. Don’t worry it’s just a .jpg – about 7 mb in size
The image is a panorama composed of about 7 images. Should have had more, but a slight mistake in focussing of the subject caused a blotch on the right most part of the image, which I had to crop out. The sepia tone gives it that old feel. Looking back, I think I should have probably given it a matt finishing too!
The tree stands on the hillock on which USU was founded – called the Old Main Hill. The post comes a little late, but work kept me busy. More coming soon….
Another shot of my department:
The polarize on the lens helped to get the nice blue – but ofcourse a little photoshop was used to increase saturation and contrast.
Life’s become rather routine – may be PhD requires that. But I am not of those type. I like the madness, tension, and all the other crap that happens in the ‘college world’. Although I get a fair dose of it in my lab, it’s not the fun types. Exams are not laced with tension that you get rid of by having super heavy dinners consisting of Cheese Burst pizza’s or Guru Kripa Samosas, and then promptly dozing off! Well, such is life – keep moving on, and find happiness in little things like a new pair of socks!

Topic of Day #3 – Cup
Selected by me, because wanted it to be easy. We decided on the topic about an hour back. Was itching to do a HDR! Hence an HDR image. Was worth it – there were some other photographs of Cup’s that I took. Will probably post it tomorrow.
Which reminds me that I will probably have to pick up the Pro version of Flickr – subscribe to it – I mean. Expensive, but I guess worth it. I like Flickr as compared to Photobucket or Picasa.
Image details excluded because it’s a combinations of three images. May be next time I’ll try several images. I just found out – the .tif output of an 32bit channel HDR is 115 mb in size!!!! Reduce it to 8bit – and size comes down to 5 mb or so.
Thus ends another day
Topic of the day: Wood
3rd day at this, Abhijit’s choice. I was wondering what to photograph. First thought I’ll shoot a awesome bald tree – with incoming spring, and winter fading away, seemed suitable. But then, I was going to the HPER ( gym/sports center) – that I saw these ornamental ‘tubs’ kept outside our apartments. Decided to do a HDR of it. Unfortunately, lighting was so good, that it didn’t matter I did a HDR.
Another day goes by…
Very difficult to view life in black and white – Gray exists!
Topic of the Day: Black and White – open subject.
It’s been 41 hours that I’ve been up. Before this turns into another rant about how I want to sleep and that I’m not a morning person, I will stop. Topic was decided by me – black and white. Got the idea from DPS which had posted on B&W Portrait Photography. I kept the subject open.
As usual, lack of time didn’t let me get creative. Came back home an hour ago to find a coffee cup in the other apartment. It’s originally black and white. I photoshopped the curves, to modify the look
